Dermaplaning….a refreshing treatment

Dermaplaning is a highly effective and safe, physical exfoliation of the face. Unlike microdermabrasion which uses crystals, dermaplaning is a more thorough exfoliation of the skin where a small tool is used to gently clear away dry, dead, superfluous skin cells. Dermaplaning can be performed alone, or in conjunction with a medical grade chemical peel, cryogenic therapy or other treatment. For best results, a series of dermaplaning treatments is usually recommended, but results can be seen after just one treatment in the form of smooth, radiant skin.

Benefits of Facial Dermaplaning:

  • Immediately diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Increases the rate of absorption of cosmeceutical grade skincare products
  • Creates an instant healthier and more radiant appearance of the skin
  • Removes built up dead skin cells and sebum from the skin
  • Removes vellous hair, or “peach fuzz”, for a smoother look
  • Produces an immediate glow, smoothness and softness of the skin
  • Promotes new, healthy skin production
  • Creates a more even tone and texture of the skin.

How does Facial Dermaplaning work?

A licensed and trained esthetician uses a small tool to manually exfoliate dead cells from the skin. Because dermaplaning involves using a small tool, the esthetician can see exactly the amount of dead skin cells that are being removed, as well as focus on areas of the face where there is built up dead skin. The result is evenly exfoliated, healthy looking skin.

As dermaplaning is a non-invasive treatment, only the dead skin cells on the surface will be removed. This will allow skin care products to penetrate more easily; we recommend using caution when applying aggressive skin care serums at home for a few days to avoid any irritation.

Will Dermaplaning Hurt?

There is no pain associated with dermaplaning, most people find it relaxing. The only sensation you may experience is a light scratching as the esthetican works.

Will I Have To Take Time Off Work For Healing?

There is no downtime after dermaplaning, and you can return to work the same day. We recommend a dermaplaning facial before a big event such as a wedding or a reunion due to the smoothing and rejuvenating appearance it produces.

Can I Have A Chemical Peel At The Same Time?

The combination of dermaplaning with a chemical peel is an excellent skincare treatment and one that we recommend to many of our clients.  Since dermaplaning removes the dead skin cells that act as a strong barrier against products, the alpha and beta hydroxyl acids in the peel are able to better penetrate into the skin to encourage new cell growth, reduce discoloration, soften fine lines, and minimize the appearance of pores. Since this is a more intensive treatment than the dermaplaning facial there can be 1-2 days of slight skin flaking around the nose and mouth after the treatment.

Won’t The Hairs On The Face Grow Back Thicker?

No. The hair on the face are called vellous hairs and it is physiologically impossible to grow back thicker.  There are two types of hair that grow on our bodies, vellous and terminal hair. Vellous hair is the fine, translucent hair that you can find on your cheeks, jaw and neck – often referred to as “peach fuzz”.  Terminal hair is thicker, colored hair that grows under the arms, pubic area, legs, eye brows, and mustache and beard for men. Terminal hair can be removed with laser hair reduction. When Vellous hair is cut the structure of the hair does not become damaged, therefore it is impossible to alter.

What will my skin look like after a Dermaplaning treatment?

Dermaplaning  leaves the skin instantly looking smoother, radiant and glowing. This is a perfect treatment for a date or an event where you want to look good immediately and do not have days to wait to get results from other facial treatments.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects are minimal and temporary and may include redness, dryness and flaking of the skin. We recommend avoiding exercise and vigorous exfoliation for 24 hours after your dermaplaning treatment to avoid irritation of the skin.

Who can or should receive Facial Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is appropriate for anyone looking for an instant result from a non-surgical treatment that have an event such as a date, wedding or just want immediate results that include radiant, glowing facial skin. Patients who are nursing, pregnant or trying to become pregnant are great candidates for demaplaning; you’ll get a deep exfoliation treatment without any chemicals.
